Dear Member Institutions,
Welcome to a new year with the United States Collegiate Athletic Association. I am excited about this new year, as we approach 2020 which will bring a new strategic plan and fresh look to the USCAA. You can now visit www.theuscaa.com and find a full 2018-19 End of Year briefing.
At this year’s convention in June, the USCAA’s Strategic Planning Committee began the process of developing key performance indicators (KPI) for the association’s next 3-4 year action plan. These indicators were developed with 360 degree feedback from USCAA members who attended the convention and participated in SWOT analysis and Town Hall sessions. I’d like to thank the Strategic Planning Committee (listed below this memo) and all members who were active in attending the convention and participating in this process. We hope to engage all member athletic directors and decision makers as we move forward with planning and will be actively seeking leaders who want to participate on our KPI Committees.
The key performance indicators that were developed include the enhancement of:
1. Marketing & branding
3. Financial Stability
4. Diversity & Inclusion
5. Student-athlete engagement
Goals that have been constructed under these KPI include the expansion of the USCAA brand, focus on new member acquisition, seeking alternative revenues to keep member costs low, promotion of equitable practices within the association, enhancement of onboarding & internal communication, development of an SAAC and much more.
Furthermore, 2020 marks the launch of the newest USCAA brand and trademark, The Small College National Championships. This secondary Championship logo will be rolled out with the 2020 Basketball National Championships. It seeks to advance the USCAA in the following ways:
1. Provide a brand that member coaches can use with prospective student-athletes. “At our university, we compete in the USCAA for the Small College National Championship.”
2. Provide a brand that is immediately explicable to stakeholders including sponsors, host cities, and National Championship host partners.
3. Separate ourselves from our competition. The USCAA is the only association which accepts member institutions based on size and resources. Last year, the NAIA stated on their website that they are the “Experts in the Business of Small College Athletics.” This is a reminder that we are the only association that provides clear metrics on how we define small college – by size, resource, and opportunity to compete. The USCAA levels the playing field for small colleges through this method, and should therefore be the owner of “The Small College National Championships.”
Our office will be pushing for conference and regional expansion this year. We hope to host meetings with prospective members and show them the benefits of USCAA membership. More opportunity, lower costs, and the chance to compete against like institutions is our staple. We appreciate your continued support of our growth and advancement and as you to continue to serve as strong ambassadors for this development into 2020.
